Story Space offers small-group storytime sessions to nurture students’ early literacy skills, paving the way for bright futures both in and outside the classroom
Story Space seeks to bolster early literacy and social-emotional skills by providing weekly online storytime to elementary school students.
Story Space seeks to augment reading instruction received in school by providing a space to expose children to the benefits of storytelling with age appropriate materials.
All Story Space sessions occur virtually via Zoom to promote the health and safety of our participants.
A friendly group atmosphere fosters connections among children and promotes the idea that reading IS fun!
Story Space was born of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on education. As schools shuttered to contain the virus, children lost out on months of in-person learning, harming prospects both in and beyond the classroom. Not only was education hit hard, but social-emotional development also suffered as children were deprived of the benefits of peer interaction. Story Space aims to combat both of these phenomena by providing weekly storytime—a proven method to improve literacy and emotional development in children—to K-5th graders. Led by high schoolers, each session is an opportunity to gather while reaping the educational benefits of storytelling.
